A federal jury has found two Florida men guilty of orchestrating the contract killing of a 17-year-old high school student after she reported being sexually assaulted and was expected to testify in court.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, the verdict followed more than two weeks of testimony detailing a chilling plot to silence the teenage victim before her allegations could be fully heard in court.

The defendants, Lenard White, 37, also known by several aliases, and Sheldon Robinson, 22, were convicted of multiple federal charges including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, murder-for-hire, premeditated first-degree murder, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. Both men also face firearms charges tied to the killing. If convicted on all counts, they face multiple mandatory life sentences.

Prosecutors told jurors that the tragic chain of events began on February 6, 2023, when the 17-year-old student and her mother went to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office to report that the teenager had been sexually assaulted.

The following day, Robinson allegedly went to their home and knocked on the door. When the door was opened, he unleashed a barrage of gunfire, striking both the teenager and her mother. The high school student was killed in the attack.

Evidence presented at trial indicated that the killing was not random but part of a calculated effort to prevent the girl from testifying about the alleged assault. Federal prosecutors argued that the murder was arranged specifically to silence a witness and obstruct justice.

The victim was described as an active and promising young student who participated in her school’s tennis team and the ROTC program. Her life, full of potential and service-minded discipline, was cut short in an act of violence that shocked the local community.

Cases like this highlight the devastating consequences of violence used to silence victims and witnesses. Scripture teaches that justice and truth must not be suppressed, warning in Proverbs that those who “justify the wicked and condemn the righteous” both stand condemned before God. The deliberate attempt to silence a young witness through murder represents a profound moral failure and a grave attack on justice itself.

Federal authorities emphasized that witness intimidation and murder-for-hire schemes will be prosecuted aggressively. Investigators from federal and local law enforcement agencies worked together to gather the evidence that ultimately led to the convictions.

White and Robinson now await sentencing, where each faces the possibility of spending the rest of their lives behind bars.

While no court ruling can restore the life that was lost, the verdict represents a measure of accountability for a crime intended to bury the truth. The case also stands as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting victims who step forward to report wrongdoing.
