Saudi Arabia says it has intercepted and destroyed multiple drones launched from Iraqi territory in what officials described as a deliberate attempt to strike critical oil infrastructure, marking another dangerous escalation in an already volatile Middle East.
As reported by NDTV Profit, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems successfully neutralized the unmanned aerial vehicles before they reached their intended targets. According to Saudi officials, the drones were aimed at oil facilities in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, a region that plays a vital role in global energy production.
Saudi authorities directly blamed armed militias operating in Iraq with ties to Iran for carrying out the attack. In a statement, the kingdom declared that it “reserves the right to respond” and will determine the appropriate time and manner for retaliation. The Saudi Foreign Ministry also urged the Iraqi government to prevent its territory from being used as a launch point for attacks against neighboring nations.
The latest incident comes after months of heightened instability across the Middle East. Regional tensions have remained elevated following the broader conflict involving the United States and Iran earlier this year, with proxy militias continuing to play a significant role in cross-border attacks. Oil infrastructure throughout the Gulf has increasingly become a strategic target, raising concerns over both regional security and global energy markets.
